A Little Less Conversation, A little More Action, Please

I don’t know if this title triggers anyone out there, but I genuinely think it is absolutely relevant to coaching! King Elvis rules even now with his music in a field that may or may not have been apparent in his time. You see, coaching has been around since the ancient times, whether we are talking about physical coaching or mental coaching. The same is true about positive psychology and the concept of happiness. In fact, but do not tell anyone, the puzzle of true happiness had been solved back then. Yep. It is a solved problem.

Coaching, and personal development, is not so much a favourite game. Do you know why? Well, it requires two things that our brain is not a huge fan of: Time and discipline. For what reason we decided to put stress into time and make it define our existence is just vexing. I feel almost everyone knows that stress used to be a good thing back in the time, a tool in our body and brain to protect us from all dangers. Cause as we know, man loves jumping into situations without thinking first.

It is this “without thinking” part that made the Ancient Greeks say: hey, do we want to be the best or not? It is that thinking part, long before the Golden Age and the Parthenon that cave men managed to survive and be the forefathers of our species (kind of, not exactly, but do visit the Britannica or National Geographic to get all the details about how it went down with thinking and not so thinking human species).

So, back to Elvis and his song: a little less conversation, a little more action, please. Ruminating and talking about the same thing over and over again will not lead to change. Clear communication and clear thinking make for faster and more effective conversations leading to more time to act on something, observe yourself while doing it, assess it and proceed accordingly. Does this mean no more long, boring, meaningless company or family meetings?

I surely hope so!
